The surveys by YCDP for the 2003 blanket
project revealed that illiteracy was an important issue for
the people in Parwan and Kapisa provinces. Our senior supervisor
with YCDP was able to arrange for a meeting place and hire
2 teachers to provide lessons without fee for anyone who wished
to attend. We currently have 90 students who are widows and
orphans of all ages that have never been to school before.
The teachers hold classes in three shifts of two and a half
hours each in different villages. Each teacher receives fifty
dollars per month. We hope to expand this project as more
donations are received.
